On June 1st  and 3rd  we will be holding sessions for anyone interested in becoming a staff Membership Councillor. Membership Council elections are coming up and we have vacancies for staff Membership Councillors in the following staff constituencies:

  • Allied Healthcare Professionals/HCS/Pharmacists;
  • Management/Admin/Clerical;
  • Ancilliary;
  • Nurses/Midwives

Any member of staff is eligible to stand for election to their staff group.  Why not put yourself forward?

What’s the Membership Council all about?

The Membership Council is the body that, amongst other things, helps to influence the strategic direction of the Trust. The Membership Council has a duty to hold the Board to account for its actions, and Membership Councillors meet regularly with Board members and senior managers across the divisions/directorates to discuss work going on around the Trust, new developments, quality issues etc.

There are 28 seats on the Membership Council made up of 6 staff seats; 16 public seats and 6 nominated stakeholder seats.

What will I need to do if I get elected?

Being a staff Membership Councillor (MC) is about seeing things through the eyes of the patient and using your experience as a staff member to help make improvements. You’ll attend meetings and give your opinion and views which will help senior managers in their decision making.

Being an MC is also great for your personal development as we run regular development sessions for MCs covering topics that you might not come across in your every-day job, such as Finance, Quality issues and many more!  You don’t need any special skills or qualifications to be an MC and you’ll undergo a full induction programme if elected.

Before you put yourself forward, you’ll need to check that your line manager’s happy for you to stand because if you’re successful you’ll be required to attend meetings on a fairly regular basis.

Want to find out more?

E-mail our Business Manager for the Membership Office, Vanessa, at: vanessa.henderson@cht.nhs.uk or call her on 01484 347342.  Vanessa will be able to put you in touch with one of our existing MCs who will be able to give you first hand information about what’s involved.

We are also holding two briefing sessions for people interested in standing for election, on Monday 1 June (6 pm to 8 pm in the Board Room at HRI) and Wednesday 3 June (6 pm to 8 pm in the Large Training Room, Learning Centre at CRH). These sessions will provide you with all the information you need to know about how to stand for election and what being an MC is all about.  If you’d like to come along, please e-mail membership@cht.nhs.uk.
