The annual ‘Lights of Love’ service for parents to remember  babies who died during pregnancy or around birth will be held again this year at St Thomas Church in Huddersfield (opposite Wickes Store in Manchester Road).

Our Chaplain, George Spencer, says: "This is a really popular service and part of the national wave of Lights of Love organised by SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society). The idea is to give parents a bit of space to reflect on the children who are not with us as everyone gears up for Christmas. We read out their names and light candles to honour them and show our love for them. The service simply comprises readings chosen by parents, listening to music and, since it’s Christmas, we sing a carol.”

At Calderdale there is also a service with the same theme in the Hope Centre (Chapel) at Calderdale Royal Hospital. Again, names will be read out and candles lit in remembrance of brief lives, fleetingly known but still held precious. Local SANDS group members participate in leading this service too.

  • Remembering Baby: Sunday, 3rd December at 3pm, at the Hope Centre, Calderdale Royal Hospital
  • Lights of Love: Friday, 8th December at 7.30pm, at St Thomas’ Church, Manchester Road, Huddersfield

Anyone affected by the loss of a baby will be warmly welcomed at either of these services. For further information contact the Hospital Chaplaincy on 01484 342092 or 01422 244220 or our SANDS groups - https://www.facebook.com/huddersfieldsands
