Thanks.... and hope we never need you!

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue team collected a £100 charitable donation after HRI radiology was one of three teams who won our own "Three Peaks" challenge.

Our CEO Owen Williams offered a donation to a charity for the first CHFT team of 10 to have had  1) their annual appraisal, 2) a 'flu jab, and 3) completed the national staff survey.

Radiology, infection control  and a group of information analysts from The Health Informatics Service at Acre House all came in at the same time, so each was asked to select a charity and receive £100 from Owen. The other winners will be presented soon (read more about their charity choices below).

The team in radiology decided to pick from a hat as everyone had charities close to their heart. Clerical officer Sue Walker (pictured middle) suggested Holme Valley Mountain Rescue as there is a core group of colleagues who go walking regularly from the team. Sue told CHFT Weekly "Thankfully we've not had to call them out, but it's always reassuring knowing they're on-hand if we need them".

Owen Phillips, from the mountain rescue team, volunteers on top of his day job. Their last call out was last week when  they had to use the coastguard top help rescue a lady who had a diabetic attack on Mardsen Moor.

The infection control team have chosen Cystic Fibrosis as their nominated charity and the information team have chosen Different Strokes.  Different Strokes is the only UK charity specialising in stroke in working age adults and in children and provides information resources and support groups to younger stroke survivors and their families.  It was established and is overseen by younger stroke survivors and this unique insight allows them to deliver information and support services that are both relevant and from the heart. The team selected it in support of colleague Simon Beeley. He said: " On a personal level the information and support I received from Different Strokes following my stroke aged just 39 really helped me to adjust to my new life.  It helped me to feel much less isolated and realise that there are lots of people of comparable age facing and overcoming similar challenges."
