Agnieszka Wozniak and Pnt Laloe scored 100% in  the launch of Level 1 Resuscitation Training Update using QCPR manikins earlier this month.

They are pictured with Dr Tim Jackson the anaesthetic representative on our CHFT Resuscitation Committee.

The session started with a short video of the assessment of a collapsed person and summoning the Resuscitation Team and initiating Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, including a demonstration of a staff member performing CPR using the QCPR manikin and Sim Pad.

This was followed by a practical session by the Resuscitation Officers and Advanced Life Support Instructors Tim and Richard Johnson. This allowed staff to perform CPR with visual feedback on the quality of:  hand position, rate, depth and recoil of compressions via the Sim Pad, which provides constructive advice where necessary.

Once the member of staff has had the opportunity to undertake a short practice they are then assessd in a one minute series of continuous chest compressions. A score of 80% is required in order to pass the assessment. Reassuringly, all participants passed with the majority scoring above 90%.

Thanks to....The video was produced by Megan Radford from the Medical Illustration Department with assistance from Colette Reeves who plays the role of the collapsed patient, Juliet Hendrick and Sue Shaw Resuscitation Officers.

This initiative was supported by a charitable fund donation from the Cardiology Department which enabled the purchase of the manikins and Sim Pads.

Lead resuscitation officer, Sue Shaw explained there will be more opportunities to attend further drop-in sessions.  She said: "We will be making time available for senior clinical staff to attend drop-in sessions relating to their competency in delivering CPR.  This will be aimed at senior clinical staff who have already attended previous resuscitation training and are familiar with our defibrillators and process for summoning the adult resuscitation team.

"The specialised manikin will be available from  8.30 - 9.15 am and again at 12.30 until 1.45 on days where we are delivering our planned Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrilator sessions".
