We're into week three of our winter 'flu vaccination campaign and Tina Knight who heads up the pain clinic at CRH sent this photo of her team who are fully vaccinated saying: "They always give 110% to everything and I'm really proud of them". And in the past week our own Nick Scriven has warned on national TV that a major flu outbreak could 'overwhelm' the NHS this winter.
Dr Scriven (pictured below), is national President of Society of Acute Medicine, (SAM) which represents hospital doctors who look after patients admitted as an emergency who do not need surgery. He said a bad flu season could "overwhelm" the NHS and even lead to routine operations being suspended.
He told CHFT Weekly: "It is imperative that every healthcare worker has the vaccination to protect themselves, their families and their patients."
A heavy outbreak of flu in the Southern Hemisphere during winter has already prompted NHS England boss Simon Stevens to warn hospitals to be prepared for a "pressurised" 'flu season.
Dr Scriven said "Over the last two to three years we haven't had to deal with any major outbreaks of infection such as norovirus or flu, but this year we are predicting a bad 'flu season that will overwhelm us after what we've witnessed in Australia and New Zealand.
"For all the talk of preparations, on the ground it feels as though nothing's new this year other than crossed fingers. If, as we expect, we see a 'flu outbreak, I think the NHS - in terms of both beds and clinical staff - will break down far worse than last year."

** We're looking forward to having an up-to-date report on our vaccination uptake next Monday. Don't forget there are drop ins each Thursday in or near the restaurants between midday and 1.00 (though we'll extend to 1.30 if we're busy). You'll find all the information you need about flu here.
** Our extra picture shows Flu Fashion at its best. Cold (or should we say 'flu) shoulder tops make it very easy!
