Mandy Tolson, our Access to Health Records supervisor, is losing her locks this Saturday aiming to smash £600 for Macmillan cancer support.
Her usually red or brightly-coloured hair is going to be no more at the hands of her local hairdresser, Julie, in Slaithwaite.
Mandy says she is doing it as every family can be touched by cancer. "Macmillan did such a marvellous job for both my sister-in-law, who sadly died and my cousin who has recovered."
The idea came to her on holiday in Corfu this summer. She said: "I was trying to think of what I could do for charity, my hair was driving me mad at the time – sun, sand etc. and I thought, get it off! It was when we got home that my husband saw the advert for the Brave the Shave and that was it!
"People who know me, know that my hair is a biggy for me - as for most women - but I do like a nice bright colour. So it is going to be very tough as my natural colour now may be white/grey."
"After I signed up I have been walking round the hospital speaking to lots of people to get sponsors, I think they will probably walk in the opposite direction now when they see me (lol)!"
She has so far raised more than £600 which includes the biggest donation so far from her closest work colleagues in Records Services of £200.
