Our consultant ophthalmologist Indra Dias snipped the ribbon at the opening of our newly-expanded department for patients with medical eye conditions -  including macular degeneration - at Acre Mills.

It was made possible with a joint working agreement with Novartis who have helped us with  £90k worth of new instruments on the second floor  suite which means after a test on the first floor a patient can now move up a floor on the same visit for treatment rather than having to rebook another visit.

Indra  pictured with colleagues Rehna Khan, left and Qusva Ilyas, right, and Novartis colleagues, said: " This has been in the planning since 2015 and it is all thanks to support from our clinical directors and dedicated nursing staff.

"It is a good day for our patients.  For our elderly patients in Huddersfield it means care closer to their homes which is very important  and with good parking  facilities too!."

Previously all patients with macular degeneration had to travel to clinics at CRH to be seen. Now we have nine clinics, our patients are seen more quickly and our waiting lists are going down.

A Novartis spokesman said it was a pleasure to team up to deliver better service for patients. She said it was a pleasure to see  the project  come to fruition.
