This week we offer a big welcome to all our new nurses who have joined our teams and departments right acrss the Trust. Fran Senior is one of them and here she shares her very close family attachment to CHFT.
Hello my name is... Fran Senior, I am 24 years old and I newly qualified in September. I live in Brighouse with my lovely boyfriend Aaron and our little puppy Betty. I grew up in Dewsbury with my younger sister Georgina, who is a HCA on MAU at HRI. My mum is a retired nurse and also worked at CHFT and my dad is a plumber. I went to Castle Hall School in Mirfield, then I did my A levels at Huddersfield New College. I love all sports especially football and I spent my childhood in the local parks and football fields playing.
What is your position?
Staff nurse on SAU
Summarise your career background?
I left college in 2011 I went to be a holiday rep for two summers. The first summer I spent in Holland just outside of Amsterdam and the second summer I was in Venice and Lake Garda. This is where I learnt vital life experience learning to deal with people. I was 18 years old when I left home and my family all said I came back a different person, I went a child and came back an adult. I believe those summers really helped me out and made me who I am today. After I came back from Lake Garda, I got a job on the staff bank working in medical records- where I met Aaron funnily enough! I worked here for a few months and decided clinical was where I wanted to be and followed in my mum’s footsteps. I applied for a job in theatre at HRI as an assistant theatre practitioner. I found a love for all things surgical and when a opportunity for a secondment to do my nurse training came about, I jumped at the chance! I went Huddersfield University for my degree and here I am now, a staff nurse on SAU.
What is the highlight of your career so far?
Is getting a 1st class honours in a nursing degree and also getting signed off on my IV training in less than half a day.
Sum up your role in three words?
Putting patients first...
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was younger I always wanted to be a police officer, but as i left school and went to college I had no idea what I wanted to do so had a year out aboard.
Who is your hero/heroine and why?
My heroine has to be my mum, she has always put the whole family before herself. She is always there when I need her and nothing is ever too much. She has made me into the person I am today. I grew up watching her working hard and caring for us all. I wouldn’t have ever been able to get where I am today and pass my training without the help of my wonderful mum. As a teenager I thought she was ‘ruining my life’ but really she was doing the best for me and now I don’t live with her we are the best of friends.
When you are not at work how you do relax?
I love football, playing and watching. I have been a season ticket holder at Leeds United for 11 years and I go home and to a fair amount of away days. Love going and having a pint of dark fruits and chicken balti pie. I love going out of meals, I’m a real foodie. One of my favourite food to have is curry, I’m always down for a chicken tikka masala with a garlic naan. Also love taking my dog out on long walks, Scammonden dam is our favourite place to go.
What is your favourite place?
My favourite place is Elland Road football stadium. The singing and the buzz of the place is great.
What would people be surprised to know about me?
People are always surprised when I say I don’t like any hot drinks. As most nurses love a cuppa.
