Staff nurse Rachael Brook in HRI theatres is setting the pace this year - running out of her first vaccine stocks after just an hour.

She's already  immunised 70 colleagues -  more than she did during the  whole of last year's 'flu campaign.

She's done it  - together with colleague Lynn -  to help the department be in good shape for the winter and protect  everyone and our patients from flu.

Rachael, holding the YES poster, said: "I had it in 2001 and couldn't move my arms or legs and couldn't get out of bed."

She engages in conversation while delivering the jab and her technique is widely praised. " They say I am really gentle.. and if I keep talking there's no problem. The knowledge in the department means on the whole, I don't have problem encouraging our team to have it and there's a great spirit!."

Occy health's Christine Bouckley reckons Rachael's efforts have contributed to  probably the  best ever start to the flu campaign. She said: " I certainly think we’re off to a flying start! We've a student just inputting  all the forms today to keep up. The  Learning Centres are  busy  and Jean and Karen out to big groups too so yes – probably is best ever!"
