Going Sober in October is Macmillan's current campaign to help and support people and families affected by cancer. Their website features some of the 75,000 non-drinking Soberheroes from all over the country who have signed up to ditch the drink for an entire month.
Surgery's general managerJason Bushby is one of them. He is already into his first week and has even pledged to extend it past October to cover his first wedding anniversary in early November. See photo attachment.
Jason said: " It's been easier than I thought and keeping busy is key. So, I am going to see my first am-dram production tomorrow night. Me and my wife Claire are going to see the Vicar of Dibley by the Holmfirth Amateur Players. Say no more!"
For more information see www.gosober.org.uk and in the meantime here's more about Jason's top effort.
1 Why are you Going Sober? I have family and friends who have beaten or will beat this horrible illness and I suppose to actually prove to my wife I can do teetotal for at least a month!
2 What do you think will be toughest bits? Friday nights, I don't drink on a "school night" but do like a late night, bottle of Merlot and a film before retiring to bed to snore my head off.
3 Are you are a beer, a wine or a spirits man? Red wine but I have just found gin so getting really partial to a G&T or just a G!!
4 How good will that first pint taste on November 1? I have promised not to touch a drop until the 6th Nov so we can celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary sober!!
5 What’s the longest you’ve done before without alcohol? When I was in the forces I often went months without drinking. Admittedly it was more enforced than choice!!
6 Could Jason be teetotal long term? Seriously??? No, not a chance.
