A totally team effort by Ward 5D at CRH raised nearly £1k during the Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk at the weekend in Leeds - and they've already pledged to go back next year in wellies.
It proved a really muddy four miles but the team trudged on to raise awareness about the condition. 5D is an elderly ward and many of our patients have dementia requiring specialist nursing with compassion.
The Ward manager, ward sister, staff nurses, health care assistant and clerks all took part in the event at Temple Newsam.
Sister Gabrielle Gaukroger, said: " It was really emotional seeing people with their loved one's photos on their T-shirts. We work so closely with patients with dementia it is a cause which is really close to us as a team."
She said Tommy Whitelaw's talk at our Nursing Conference last week about seeing the patient and not just the diagnosis was spot-on. " Us doing the walk in the same week as Tommy's talk made it all extra special to us," she said.
"We are all up for it again next year as we really bonded as a team.... but we will bring our wellies!"
