Dr Ali joined CHFT to set up a pioneering new in-house renal service for us three years ago this month... and he wants to say a big thanks for all his support!.
Renal Medicine cover was traditionally provided by visiting consultant colleagues from Leeds coming to us once a week. Patients with acute renal failure or chronic renal failure (as termed then) were transferred to Leeds or referred to Outpatient clinics at St James or Leeds General Infirmary.
In 2014, CHFT appointed Dr Mansoor N Ali as the first renal physician providing an in-house renal cover across CHFT ensuring working closely with various specialties medical and surgical to optimise patient care, provide specialist opinion and, when necessary, facilitate patient transfer to the tertiary centre in Leeds.
Here's how it has gone in his own words.
“I took this post as a challenge and agreed upon taking this role knowing something like this has not been done before in the region. I had a vision to develop and further build upon a service which was started by colleagues from Leeds, Dr Mark Wright and Dr Elisabeth Garthwaite. Dr Wright’s mentoring has been crucial in my professional and personal development. This also would have not been possible without the support of the management Ashwin Verma, Alan Hart-Thomas (previous CD for IMS), Simon Grant, Maureen Overton, Gillian Dolman and Lucy Pittaway. I also want to thank all my colleagues nursing and medical, junior and seniors from various specialties who have worked together with me to provide the best possible care to patients with renal problems. I am also grateful to Dr Victoria Briggs who joined me in Aug 2016, as it was getting too much for me to handle on my own. I cannot thank enough my secretaries Adele Mann and Jane Dye who type our letters, respond to and answer all the renal queries.
"A huge thank you to the patients for their understanding, co-operation, compliance and positive feedback, we wouldn’t have done that without them.
"I look forward to working with management and colleagues on further development in the services we provide for renal patients within CHFT. We have created a successful pathway for fistula creation for renal patients under the leadership of Mr Neeraj Bhasin and renal vascular services in Leeds. We have appointed a renal dietician in the outpatient setting, expanding the nephrology outpatient clinics facilitating early ward discharges and reviewing patients in the outpatient setting. We will hopefully working on a pathway for performing renal biopsies in-house and expanding the number of renal consultants to enable prompt and timely renal reviews.”
Thank you for all the support.
