Senior Sister Kath Barnes, Staff Nurse Becky Bedford and Family Support Worker Fearn Phillips were overwhelmed by a lovely donation following a very emotional appeal.

PC Sally Clark and PC Dean Wolstencroft  started a social media campaign to raise supplies for a family who could not afford basics for their little new-born daughter.

Dean  works with Kirklees Child Protection Unit and as a part of his role he goes to conferences about children, families and those at risk.

He bought the family some supplies himself and then asked for help on Facebook from friends. He also asked around to see if anyone had any unused milk or left over smaller-sized nappies.

Sally saw Dean's request and put it out on her twitter. It very quickly gained momentum by being retweeted and had soon been seen by over 200,000 Twitter users from all over the world.

Dean said “I was moved when I opened one box which contained 10 tins of formula, then the next parcel contained two dummies - people had sent whatever they could afford.”

Very soon after they had to ask people who wanted to donate to send things directly to The Welcome Centre foodbank in Huddersfield as the Police Station was becoming engulfed!

The family were given a huge supply of milk and nappies which will see them through the initial feeding stage and they were extremely grateful to everyone who donated. As there were lots left Dean donated them to Pinderfields and  to us to our special care baby units.

Our team were delighted to receive them and send our biggest thanks on behalf of our new mums and babies.
