Specialist physiotherapist Heidi Boyd tackled the Overgate Midnight Walk alongside daughter Amy and Monty the dog last Saturday. Heidi has been doing the walk for the past three years in memory of her Dad who was due to go to the hospice, though he sadly died on the day he was supposed to go there. Heidi and Amy decided to start raising money for the hospice as a tribute to him and felt it has helped them both grieve.
Last year the mother and daughter did the seven miles (but Heidi’s fitbit claims eight!) and the six mile walk the previous year. Heidi's first walk in 2015 was with her friends from Weight Watchers, and since she began her healthy regime Heidi has lost more than five stones in weight!
The peak for Monty the dog on the night was getting his own bacon butty at the end of the walk!
A record breaking 1,153 people took to the streets of Calderdale on Saturday 9th September - including Jacqui Booth from our communications team. Jacqui (picture attached) did the walk for the first time with some friends.
She said "We really went for it - I almost could have done the Great North Run it felt that quick. I managed the 13 miles in a respectable 3 hours 20 minutes, so clearly the challenge will be to beat that next year!
"All my friends that I walked with have experience of using Overgate, so my small effort was worth it for them."
