Two consultations on possible changes to the way Kirklees Council supports local people began on Monday 4 September 2017. The proposals are about:
- Early Years services for children with SEN or disabilities
- Short breaks for parents/carers of children with additional needs
- Transport funded by social care
- Home to school transport for school-aged children
The consultation on Early Years SEN, short breaks and social care transport includes a proposal to restrict the availability of the Access Fund, which offers extra funding to childcare providers who are caring for a child with SEND, to the hours of the national free entitlement to childcare.

The consultation on home to school transport asks for people’s views on providing free transport arrangements only for children and young people who qualify under the national guidelines. This would bring Kirklees into line with many other local authorities. Find out more by visiting: www.kirklees.gov.uk/SchoolTransportSurvey
Both consultations will run until 22 October 2017 and all of the feedback will be considered by the members of Cabinet (the council’s main decision-making body) later in the year.
