This happy photo is one of the bride's most treasured possessions.
Olwen Craib, from Birkby, is pictured on her wedding day with her daughter Beccy, right, as her bridesmaid.
It is now extra precious as, only a few years later, tragedy struck and 25-year-old Beccy lost her fight for life in the intensive care unit at HRI after battling illness.
Olwen gave the go-ahead for organ donation as she knew it was what her daughter would have wanted. Olwen told CHFT Weekly she is so proud of her daughter's gift of life and has spoken out as part of Organ Donation Week which starts on Monday to raise awareness.
Our organ donation specialist nurse Jayne Greenhalgh - see attachment - supported the family through the process. Beccy's heart was transplanted into a teenage girl who has since written to the family, thanking them for their decision and of her own plans for the future.
Jayne, said: "Very often being able to donate is the only positive thing to come out of a family's tragedy and we hear time and time again just how much it has meant to a family.
"The theme of this year's campaign is to talk about organ donation and make sure you tell your family about your wishes so they can respect your wishes."
There are more than 6,000 people on the waiting list for a transplant and every day three people die because organs are not available.
Our two hospitals will be promoting awareness throughout next week. We have two honeycomb memorials at our hospitals in memory of people who have given the gift of life and dedicated rose gardens where loved ones can pay their respects.
