Ward 5d at CRH recently hit the milestone of 50 days without a fall – and have received the first Rhodium Certificate at CHFT from the NHS Improvement Academy - presented by Deputy Medical Director Cornelle Parker. Now colleagues there are all thinking ahead to reaching the 100 day mark.
Ward manager, Rachel Garside, told CHFT Weekly: “Following some harmed falls we had last year we completed a falls action plan and have had a strong focus on falls prevention. This included safety huddles where we discuss at risk patients and any interventions they may need”.
They also operate tag bay nursing where there is always a HCA present in the bay to monitor high risk patients.
Rachel added: “We also promote falls awareness through education boards, and engagement support workers have led the pimp my zimmer campaign in our recent falls awareness week.
“Displaying the 'days without a fall' poster has really made colleagues want to achieve more, and go longer and longer without a fall. We all really want to get to 100 days now!”
Cornelle said: "This is a fantastic achievement and shows what can be achieved with a focussed team all aiming for the same goal. I'm really impressed".
* At the time of publication the ward had reached 64 days without a fall.
