Our medics smashed a £1400 and more by surviving a real mud bath of a challenge!

They’ve told CHFT Weekly some huge bruises were acquired but in places we can’t possibly publish…!

Their efforts were inspired by last year’s attempt (which 4 of them was crazy enough to do it again) – Sal Uka, Cath Rourke, Rosey Lwyn and Ian Melling).  They managed to convince 9 others that it and as a group they chose to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and the Childrens’ Ward, to provide further support to the families and youngest patients who need our services.

They did some training in preparation (but some did a tad more than others).

Cath and Sal arranged training sessions twice a week in Savile Park after work a month leading up to the mighty challenge.

Although the idea behind it was more about team bonding rather than pre Tough Mudder fitness but they all enjoyed it sooo much they may keeping a Paediatric Training Club going from now on!

The 10 mile slog though some extremely muddy terrain, up and down hills, icey water, ploughing through mud pits, carrying logs (and each other).

The team did have a few injuries but nothing they couldn’t handle – all be it in places in not appropriate for the naked eye!

Heather Rhodes (paediatric nurse) fell several times with a comedic squeal and Laura Dalton (paediatric registrar) face-planted into muddy water and was completely covered in the stuff.

Cath  Rourke said “We lost our shoes in the mud but never our spirits. Tough Mudder is hard but it is worth it and we are all mad as we are thinking about doing it again next year”.
