Hello My Name Is....

Lee Mellor. Married with two children, nearly five and three year olds. Lived in Huddersfield all my life Crosland Moor and now Salendine Nook, bar three years in York city centre.

I have a passion for sport much to my wife’s delight, although its watching rather than playing nowadays! Massive Huddersfield Town fan and Huddersfield Giants to a smaller extent.

What is your position?

Specialist Physiotherapist in the Support and Independence Team.

Tell us about your career background?
After spending my early adult life saving lives as a lifeguard in Slaithwaite, I completed my first degree in Sport and Exercise Science at York St Johns University.  I then completed my physiotherapy degree from Salford University. Now, after completing multiple rotations as a band 5 and working for the now decommissioned Macmillan Rehab Team, I work in the Support and Independence Team primarily treating oncology patients.

What are the best bits about your job?
Supporting and rehabilitating patients to achieve their goals and improving their quality of life.

What is the highlight of your career so far?

Becoming a ‘Specialist’ in rehab of oncology patients and I suppose my latest work in helping create a website for maxfax patients.

Sum up your role in three words?

Autonomous, Rewarding, Varied

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A footballer or a rock star!

Who is your hero/heroine and why?
David Wagner…..never thought I would see the mighty terriers in the Premier League!

When you are not at work how do you relax?
Playing with the kids, days out, watching sport. Oh and spending time with the wife!

What is your favourite place?

Seaside with the family. Oh and then of course the majestic turf of the Johns Smiths Stadium during an emphatic victory over L**ds United.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
In my former days as an athlete……I was west Yorkshire triple jump champion 2 years running leading to completing nationally and coming 11th in the UK, losing to Phillips Idowu and Chris Tomlinson who have both had long GB athletic careers!
