From cadet to an SCBU nurse in 39 years, and now Alison Massey is retiring.

Back in 1978 to 1980 Alison was a nurse cadet in Halifax but suddenly had a career change when she went to Careers Advice. Turning up to her meeting she was  initially wanting to work on the switch- board but had a change of heart when the advisor said she would enjoy it more being a nurse instead -  and so Alison did!

She trained at HRI 1980-83, but again her heart strings pulled again in 1985 telling her that babies were  where she wanted to be. Alison then trained as a midwife in 1985 then soon moved on to the SCBU in 87 and has been there ever since!

She said: " Being a nurse is what makes you who you are. I will miss working with  everyone in our team."

With 39 years in total within the CHFT trust, Alison has seen a lot of change especially in the last 30 years which is a highlighting point for her and seeing colleagues come and go over the years.

Neonatal Specialist Nurse, Wendy Kilner, said" Thank you for all your hard work Alison. You have been an excelent role model to all the staff and shown your dedication to the ward. I wish you all the best in the future and hope that you have an excellent retirement."

Alison won't be gone for good and is coming back for more as she's going to be a bank nurse part-time. Alison is now going to be  spending hertime off with her family and friends and squeezing in more holidays especially when her husband retires in 18 months time.
