We like to think CHFT Weekly isn't always totally about work. Here, we celebrate the surprise engagement of our webteam's Becky Johnson to Danny Wootton, a Clinical Systems Trainer at St James Hospital, Leeds.
Where did you meet & how long you been together?
Me and Danny met at Huddersfield University as we were on the same course (Interactive Multimedia). He asked me out at the end of first year which will be seven years ago this July. We both graduated with First Class Hons degrees which we both put down to having the support of each other during the course. Definitely tested us though early on having to get through the stress of final year whilst supporting the other.
Was it a surprise proposal?
We have talked about getting married for some time just in passing. We wanted to buy a house first with everything being so erratic at the moment in the market, so we moved back in with his parents last year and threw all our money into saving for the deposit. We found a house we loved and moved in last October. So I knew weddings and engagements would be the last thing on Danny’s mind as he would want to put his stamp on the house. So the actual proposal came as a complete shock. We had a planned weekend away to the Lake District to go walking. He planned a lovely hike round various lakes and forests and then we stopped for a picnic (he knows me well he let me eat first) Then he got down on one knee in the forest and asked me.
How did you feel?
I couldn’t stop smiling and looking at the ring. I still haven’t got used to referring to Danny as my fiancé but its exciting that we are in the next stage of journey together.
How come you trust him to buy the ring?
Danny has always known what suits me, sometimes more than me. He has very classy taste and has bought me some stunning jewellery over the years so I always knew he would pick a gorgeous ring. (and I’ve spent years in the shop windows of jewellery stores pointing at ones I like. He might have looked like he wasn’t listening but he’s a secret romantic)
Date for wedding?
We’ve both always said we don’t want a long engagement but we need to save the pennies so roughly summer 2019. Still can’t decide on abroad or at home but what we do know is it will be an intimate gathering of immediate family.
