Well done to our emergency surgeons - winners at the Patient Safety Awards 2017!
On Tuesday night they attended the prestigious finals in Manchester - their second finals in two months.
They beat off some stiff competition in their category - Patient Safety in Surgical Care - from lots of other great trusts, to scoop the top prize (see below for the other nominees).
They impressed the shortlisters with how they re-designed their rotas which has led to a huge improvement in patient outcomes.
They have in effect removed on-call from their working weeks and instead share 24/7 rotas.
Arin Saha, submitted the entries and delivered the presentation about their pioneering work to the shortlisting panels. Arin went along on the night with fellow consultants Brian Dobbins and Adrian Smith. Given the competition they were up against they didn't think they'd win - so were gobsmacked when they did!
General manager Jason Bushby, said: "To see surgeons working collaboratively like this is a real achievement. They have worked together to change the way they deliver care, put the patient first and done the must dos. It's a brilliant approach and our patients and their families are feeling the benefits."
