As ever, kindhearted CHFT colleagues have been busy fundraising. Here's three of their latest efforts.
1 A signed Huddersfield Town ball helped boost a raffle to to raise funds for the Children's Diabetes team's patient awaydays.
The stand raised £265 and our teams took the opportunity to explain more about the condition to the publc. After events in Manchester they took the decision to share the money with the British Red Cross fund.
Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse Rachael Bowker said "Quite often people aren’t aware of the different types of diabetes so we wanted to inform people of this. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very different diseases, caused by very different things and also treated very differently. The media also doesn’t quite get the differences across and young people with type 1 can often find themselves being bullied in school because of other people’s misconceptions. We did also want to highlight the risk factors for type 2 diabetes as it is becoming more prevalent within the community, and the warning signs to look out for that may indicate type 1 diabetes.
"We did have quite a lot of interest at the stand… but more so for the signed Huddersfield Town football we kindly had donated. The club have been great in supporting the children’s diabetes team since we wrote to them at Christmas and have also previously this year, donated tickets for our young patients.
"We will be taking the children to Bradley woods activity centre in the summer holidays with the funds. We aim to have a get together every year and in the past have taken them to the Lake District for the weekend Bradley woods are accommodating us for the day which will still allow the children to meet others with type 1 diabetes and join in activities. So far we have archery, grass sledging and a BBQ on the agenda!"
**In light of recent events in Manchester, as a team we wanted to help and so made the decision to contribute also to the British Red Cross Manchester appeal. In total the raffle raised £265 which will now be split between that and our own charitable fund.!"

2 In aid of Acute Medicine Awareness Day colleagues held stalls at CRH to raise money for 'Contact the elderly'.
Specialist Physiotherapist Dan Moore said "The day is to celebrate and make colleagues and patients aware of the work and dedication of staff in A+E, MAU and CDU. In particular this was a therapy stall which raised £62 for “Contact the Elderly” charity via bake sale donations. There was also a quiz with prizes
. There was also information regarding the importance of physiotherapy and occupational therapy roles in reducing admissions to the hospital.

3 And a bun stall in WoD threw up a few Mary Berrys. The Recruitment Team with contributions of cake from other teams within Workforce & Development put on a Cup Cake sale in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. The event organised by Anya Macbeth was part of National Cup Cake day on June 15 and proved a great success.
