As a Trust we  are looking at how we can make changes to cardiology, respiratory and elderly care services to improve the care we give our patients.

We give good care, but we know we can give better  care to patients and want to do this as soon as possible. Working with patients, families and care providers changing these services will allow us to:

  • Make sure we can offer the same high standard of care to every patient, where ever they live.
  • Get better at assessing and supporting patients to avoid admitting and keeping them in hospital unnecessarily
  • Give the best care for patients by making sure they are admitted into the most appropriate speciality bed or daycase area

Make it easier for our clinical team to see more patients seven days a week

Medical division general manager, Lucy Pittaway, said: " We have so far held staff workshops and feedback from them was really positive.  There is a real feeling that people are engaged and on-board with the moves."

She said the benefits to come from the reconfiguration  would include:

  • Standardised care for Calderdale and Huddersfield patients
  • Consultant of the week models possible because our resources are on one site (giving patients continuity of care)

This has also given our staff chances to raise their concerns so that we can make sure we can address them

We will be continuing to have regular workgroup meetings for each specialty  - cardiology, respiratory and elderly.

If anyone would like to be involved in them please ask them to contact Lucy Pittaway for Cardio or Resp and Jess Mannion for Elderly care.
