Our amazing emergency surgeons are through to a second national final for their work on changing rotas to improve patient outcomes.

Last month they were finalists at the BMJ Awards in London  (where Will Ainslie won best kilt award)_and on July 4  they're through to the HSJ Patient Safety Awards in Manchester.

• Royal Surrey County Hospital Foundation Trust and Kent Surrey Sussex Academic Health Science Network: The Emergency Laparotomy Collaborative
• Royal United Hospitals Bath Foundation Trust: Prevention of never events in the operating theatres  by embedding a high quality checklist and focusing on continual learning
• South Tees NHS Foundation Trust : AKI Improvement Programme
• Stockport Foundation Trust: PREOPERATIVE ANAEMIA SERVICE
• University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust: Reducing harm and building a positive safety culture through Surgical Safety Walkarounds 

Arin Saha submitted their entry after, together, they have transformed rotas adopting a shift system rather than on-call system which has seen much better patient outcomes.
