Colleagues have helped to shape a new approach to learning from adverse events in the Trust. Almost 200 colleagues completed a survey and over 70 attended a focus group.
Feedback was that one size doesn’t fit all and one of the suggested ways to share learning was through short messages. We are launching the first of these today – bitesize learning through CHFT weekly.
These will be very simple learning messages, though ones that could have a big impact on the experience of our patients. And even better - they generally cost nothing and don’t require any training!
These short messages will also be complemented by a new themed learning document on topics such as falls and mortality for example.
Why are we waiting?
What patients tell us:
Complaints and feedback often include comments about waiting - whether for discharge, a bed or an appointment.
What have we learnt?:
If we can minimise waiting times then great - the key thing is to keep people informed. It helps them understand what's happening and they know they haven't been forgotten
Please consider the following:
- Waiting can have a significant impact on the experience of our patients – they may feel frustrated, worried, anxious……
- Firstly put yourself in the patients shoes – how would you feel if this happened to you?
- Now think about your own practice – does this happen where you work?
- Finally – think about whether you could use this learning to improve the experience of patients in your care…. and take action
