We're at the Examiner Community Awards 2017 tonight - for the second year running.

We're in the final three of the Community Section as part of the team which organised Lindley Dementia Day earlier this year.

The aim of the day - staged together with Kirkless Dementia Action Alliance -  was to promote a community-wide approach to looking after people with dementia and it was hoped it could be a pilot for other community areas.

Our chairman Andrew Haigh welcomed attendees  to HRI and spoke about his own family's experiences and our Chaplain George Spencer staged a workshop at St Stephen's Church together with two of our engagement support workers, Debbie Brewins and Samantha Waddington.

Specialist nurse Barbara Schofield, our doctors and patients presented at an event in the Boardroom at HRI.

**Last week we had Memory Trees in the receptions for people to hang messages for their relatives who had died from dementia. See attached photo.

The week was hosted by our pioneering awardwinning Prevention of Delirium team (who wear distinctive red) unforms. The PoD team has been hailed as an example for future dementai care in hospitals and we are recognised as being at the very front of dementia care in this country.

** Last year theatres at HRI won Friend of the Year for all their support for their late colleague Obe Morake and his family.
