Trust colleagues who are experts in strokes are going out into the community to raise awareness and offer advice.

The Holme Valley Stroke Group was started last year by Ruth Thomas (who is our stroke clinical lead occupational therapist), Caroline Pollard (who works for the Trust as a nurse), and Stephen Haywood who is a stroke survivor. They all do this as volunteers.

Ruth who is involved in both, Huddersfield Community Rehabilitation Team and Holme Valley Stroke Group, said they had decided to hold a joint event to raise the profile of the group, get more members and raise awareness.

The event will be held at Holmfirth Methodist Church on Thursday May 7. (2 pm)

She said: "We felt holding it in Holmfirth rather than at HRI was much more out there in the community and a different way of talking to people about strokes."

At the event there will be a quiz, coffee and cakes. There will also be a ‘Carers Corner’ organised by Stephen's wife, Angela, for advice for carers and for families where a stroke has changed lives.
