There has been a huge increase both in number, and in quality of Phishing emails, and Vishing (phone scams).

Phishing Emails have the intent to get the receiver (YOU) to open an attached file or click on a link.

(Click on this link for a safe example - http://wwwaps.ups.com/WebTracking/track )

Some are there to tempt you to give up usernames & passwords, others try to get you bank details, and some are much more sinister.

There is currently several phishing/spam emails that will, if clicked/opened, encrypt your data or hard drive, and then give you 72 hours to pay the ransom for the unlock key (which may not exist anyway).

So look at the email carefully before opening it, of it’s an invoice and you never pay invoices, It’s obviously not for you.

If in doubt NEVER OPEN IT, get it checked by the IT Department. If you are rung, make sure they are who they say they are, ask them questions, but never give out personal or financial information.
