Our Controlled Drugs (CD) stationery is changing and needs to be used from Saturday 1 April.
Medication Safety Officer Anita Hill and Lead Nurse, Medicines Management Karen Guy (pictured) have been training ward and departmental managers, and other designated Registered Nurses /Registered Midwives on using the new stationery, and they've produced a training manual to complement the training which can be used as a reference guide.
The new stationery is already being phased in and all areas need to be trained and using it by Saturday 1 April. If you have not ordered your new CD stationery, please order it now from Pharmacy by using your current CD Order Book.
Complete a request in the current CD order book as follows:
- NEW STYLE Controlled Drug Order Book One book
- NEW STYLE Controlled Drug Ward Register One book
- NEW STYLE Controlled Drug Patients Own Register One book
In preparation please liaise with Pharmacy to ensure that CDs no longer required or expired are removed as per Trust Policy. Pharmacy teams will be on hand to support and reinforce the new standards following implementation.
During the first three months Anita and Karen would welcome any feedback on the new CD stationery. Following full implementation and a bedding-in period there will be a formal review and audit when we'll look at progress and consider any additional changes.

Huge thank you to pharmacy colleagues - plus a reminder to use the new online form for ad hoc requests
It seems like Pharmacy have been in overdrive these past six months to plan and centralise their stores onto the HRI site.
The team (some pictured) worked tirelessly last weekend on the move. Many were involved in moving stocks and ensuring the pharmacy computer files were all built correctly so that the centralised store would be fully operational on Monday 27th March.
Wards at CRH will be topped up by pharmacy Top Up & Distribution staff as normal – but most of the medicines will be supplied from pharmacy stores at HRI. Most areas will need to order additional ward stocks on the electronic requisition form on the intranet - you'll find more information and the form here.
Pharmacy stores staff will be able to provide a more efficient service to include more pharmacy time on the wards to manage medicines and better management of supply problems.
A big thank you to all colleagues involved in making this move a success – WELL DONE!
