Carole Hallam's loving her new rising star title after scooping a top award at the British Journal of Nursing awards in London.

They were held at the "Underglobe" venue beneath the reconstructed Shakespeare's Globe theatre on the South Bank.

Together with Valya Weston (St Helens and Knowsley) and Helen Dunn (Great Ormerod Street), their work in IV Therapy was hailed the most innovative in that field of care and has received not just national but also international recognition. They beat off tough opposition from Christie's Hospital and Aintree Hospitals to the title.

The judges said: " These IV nurses have been instrumental in the development and promotion of a vessel health and preservation framework in the hospital setting to preserve patients' veins for future use."

Carole said:" We were very proud. It is all about getting the right line into the right patient and at the right time. It's not just one treatment suits all patients. The night itself was a lovely event. Posh frocks,  posh shoes and dancing to a band after the do."
