Last Saturday we recruited 32 new nurses including some overseas nurses and return to practice. Here, one of our earliest overseas colleagues tell us all about herself.
Hello my name is....... Faye Irene Junio
I am called Irene by my friends and colleagues. I originally came from the Philippines. I am one of the nurses that came over here to Halifax to work with the Trust in December 2000 and I've been here ever since! I am married with 3 children.
What is your position? Ward Sister on 5B which is elderly care
Tell us about your career background? I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in the Philippines. I had worked as a Staff Nurse in Amman, Jordan. Since being at CHFT I've worked as a band 5 in acute medicine on short stay and previously elderly complex care.
What are the best bits about your job? Looking after and caring for my patients the way I would do my loved ones. Since I am away from my relatives, I treat my patients like my own family.
What is the highlight of your career so far? When I got my Band 6 post. I worked hard, really pushed myself as a band 5 in supporting the senior nurses on the ward and strived to set a good example to others within the team so I was really proud of my achievement.
Sum up your role in three words? Caring for patients.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? When I was young I imagined and dreamed of working abroad like my Auntie who is also a nurse.
Who is you hero/heroine and why? My sister. When our mum passed away, my sister was the one who supported, helped and stood by me. Even now that we have our own families, she still looks after me and helps me all the way.
When you are not at work how do you relax? Eating with my kids especially with my eldest son even if it is in the middle of the night!
I love to go out shopping with my girls.
What is your favourite place? There is no place like HOME as the saying goes.
What would people be surprised to know about you? That I cannot cook and my hubby does the cooking at home.
