She reckons she's driven hundreds of miles for healthcare at CHFT - and that's because we're the best!
Karen Dobney lives in Colne, Lancashire (100 miles round trip down the motorway or 60 miles over the tops via Keighley/ Denholme/Halifax) and has been coming to us since since 2009 for specialist breast care following complications after silicon implants.
Known as "Er from o'er t' hill", she picked us via Choose and Book and has never looked back - driving past many closer hospitals - because we had the specialists she wanted.
She started her care with us in 2009 after complications caused by her breast implants. She had had them privately and then removed privately when the scare hit the headlines but even afterwards there were still complications caused by the silicon.
Karen, said: " I chose CHFT because it was the only hospital with specialist breast surgeons as opposed to general surgeons and it was so the right the decision. They call me "'Er from over t' hill". Even today I had no change for the car park machine and they sorted be out behind the reception. I feel cared for here by everyone and love coming here."
Since 2009 she has been many times and is hoping for discharge very soon.
.She says: "I must have been in every dept at your Trust over the years and I am amazed at how well you treat me and my family. There is no comparison to any other hospital. I've even driven through snow to get to my appointments at CHFT.
"My brother has terminal illness and we have been to almost every hospital in the north-west and nowhere compares to the way I am treated at CHFT. My brother agrees too."
Comms caught up with her at her appointment on Friday where the Mr Rhodes and the plastics OP clinic welcomed her back for a check-up.
Here's what Karen said about our Trust on the NHS Choices website:
"I have been coming to this hospital since 2009. I chose this hospital through choose and book and live 50 miles away. This hospital is outstanding in all areas. Staff are friendly and focussed on customer care and you can tell that staff at this hospital actually genuinely want to help people unlike some hospitals where they are just doing a job. I am so very very glad I chose this hospital as I do not think I would be where I am today if I had not!! Thank you to all the staff at Huddersfield Royal and a special thanks to the staff on surgical day care recovery and the consultant secretaries who are always willing to help."
Surgery general manager, Jason Bushby, said: “ We are delighted that Karen rates our teams and the care we have been providing so highly and wants to come here rather than anywhere else.
“ On behalf of everyone in surgery I thank her for taking the time to place her comments on NHS Choices which will now be read by anyone looking for a quality healthcare provider. We always put our patients first and for Karen it seems we got it just right. “
