Hurrah!! We’re in the HSJ’s Top 50 Trusts for the second year running. (out of 237 NHS trusts assessed!)
The distinguished line-up of NHS judges has placed our Owen Williams in the top 50 CEOs in the country after analysing a combination of CEOs’ leadership styles and how their Trusts have performed.
Owen reckons he knows 6,000 reasons for our success.
He said: “I’m pleased that the Trusts approach to providing compassionate patient care has been recognised. I’ve no doubt that it is down to the hard of work of all CHFT colleagues and our partners that has placed us on the radar of the panel of judges. I passionately believe that we are doing as much as possible to deliver for our patients and their families during these very, very, challenging times and that is something we can all be very proud of.
“I’d to place on record my heartfelt thanks to all CHFT colleagues. It’s not my award it’s our award so a big thankyou to everyone.”
The panel of judges included well respected NHS people such as Sir Bruce Keogh, Sir Robert Francis and Sir Mike Richards – head of the CQC.
They were looking for where CEOs demonstrated leadership in improving care and driving efficiency and where their Trusts were achieving against their own challenges in areas such as finances and quality of care. The judges accepted that all Trust had their own battles at this challenging time for the NHS.
The judges looked at the CEO’s approach to mentoring and developing more junior staff, how a CEO works with their board, both executives and non-executives and also took into consideration what they already knew of a CEO’s standing among their peers.
They also wanted to see evidence of CEOs working for the benefit of the system as a whole rather than only protecting the interests of their own organisations.
The full judging panel was:
Health Education England chief executive Ian Cumming, Royal College of Physicians president Jane Dacre, MIND chief executive Paul Farmer, CQC non-executive director Sir Robert Francis, NHS England director of new care models Samantha Jones, NHS England medical director Sir Bruce Keogh, Local Government Association chief executive Mark Lloyd, NHS England clinical lead for accident and emergency Dr Cliff Mann, NHS Improvement director of nursing Ruth May, Healthwatch England chair Jane Mordue, CEO NHS Providers Chris Hopson, CQC chief inspector of hospitals Sir Mike Richards, NHS Confederation associate director of patients and communities Joan Sadler, Public Health England chief executive Duncan Selbie, Age UK chief executive Tom Wright, Korn Ferry associate director Kate Wilson HSJ senior correspondent Ben Clover
