We now have eight new glide-away beds – four on each site - to enable families and carers to stay overnight with patients on our wards.
Over the past six months we have been looking at end of life care for our patients and families across the Trust. While talking to colleagues on the wards, one of the things that nurses mentioned was how difficult it can be to access beds to enable relatives to stay overnight when a patient is nearing the end of their life.
The Palliative Care Trust Fund has been able to buy eight glide-away beds that all areas can access 24 hours a day. We are keen to help and support patients and families at these difficult times and hope this will enable relatives, if they want, to stay with their loved one.
End of Life Care Scoping Facilitator, Gillian Sykes said “The glide away beds will enable patients and families to spend the precious final hours together, in comfort. Supporting the patient and making memories to keep”.
On both sites please contact the Porters who will be able to access the beds for you and bring to your ward.
