How do you relax away from work?
Doing something totally absorbing - this used to be sailing (or more likely, swimming after an upturned boat ) at Scammonden, but tends now to be painting pictures or extreme gardening.
How do you stay healthy?
Use the stairs rather than the lifts (nice when you get there), sweat at the gym three times a week (nice when you stop), eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg (just nice).
What's your guilty pleasure?
The only one I am confessing to is mail-order coffee. In its defence it is Fairtrade and helps small producers.
What's your Weight-loss tip?
Eat healthy, cook from fresh, be moderate with booze and exercise portion control - especially when the gym makes you hungry!
Favourite exercise?
Apart from finger-exercise with the TV remote, I tend to cycle or run at the gym.
How do you lose weight?
I've always concentrated on staying healthy rather than trying to lose weight. If you need to console yourself, remember muscle weighs heavier than most tissue!
Do you sleep well?
I find a quietening down routine is helpful in getting to sleep, saying goodnight to the cat and putting the partner out (oops, other way round) and reading for a bit. If I wake in the night, I try not to run tomorrow's work schedule but think of those who have to be awake looking after people, and repeat a mantra which always sends me off again.
How do you cope with stress?
Part of my devotion to the gym is it promotes my mental wellbeing. Also, I find it helps to take five minutes, step back and put my problems and woes into perspective. They are as nothing compared to what pressures some are under and in contrast to the good things in my life.
