Orthopaedic surgeon Bob Metcalf is a late addition to the flu-jabbed register - and it's all down to his GP wife.

Bob said:  “My wife, a local GP and I were talking about the flu vaccination. I mentioned I’d not had it because I didn’t think I needed it - I didn’t pose a risk and I didn’t want to be unwell.

“She basically told me they were rubbish excuses and that as a clinician herself she thought it was my professional duty to have it, especially as I deal with really vulnerable patients every day, many with fractured neck of femur.

“When she put it like that I realised she was totally right, so I had it as soon as I could. I had no side effects and I know that my patients will be safe. To be honest I probably wasn’t educated enough about the risks of not having the vaccination”.

There’s still time to have your vaccination to protect yourself, your family and more importantly your patients. Contact Occupational Health on 01422 222037.

And if you’ve had it at your GP or elsewhere in the community please tell us so we can update our records. please either complete this online form, email fluCHFT@cht.nhs.uk or talk to your immuniser.
