The Falls Prevention Team have been at it again. The Assistant Practitioners within the Support & Independence Falls Prevention team have once again taken their knowledge and experience out into the community.

They attended the Older Persons Wellbeing Event  at the new Halifax Academy Primary School, Springhall Lane and the Older Persons Christmas lunch on Wednesday 14th, hosted at King Cross Fire-station both earlier this month.

At both events, the Falls Prevention – Assistant Practitioners explained the importance of Falls Prevention as well as holding their own taster sessions of the Finding Your Feet strength & balance exercise class. Participants had fun joining in with the exercises, as well as realising the benefits.  The awareness raising events have generated a lot of interest, questions and additional referrals into the service.

REMEMBER: If you know of someone who is:

  • Over the age of 50, registered with a Calderdale GP and/or live in the Calderdale area
  • Has a fear/history of falling and/or has problems with their balance
  • Feels they would benefit from a falls risk assessment

Then refer to the Support and Independence Team via Gateway to Care on 01422 393000. If they wish to attend a Finding Your Feet – strength & balance exercise class, then they will need to be able to transfer & exercise independently and stand unsupported for at least 1 minute.
