The former Mayor and Mayoress of Hebden Royd have made a donation to the children’s ward at CRH.

The money donated has gone towards providing more parent beds and portable DVD players and fun packs for the children to pass the time.

Karl and Felicity Boggis chose the Children’s ward at CRH as their charity of choice for this year.

This decision came as a result of a late night dash into the ward in December last year when their youngest child Jacob, fell ill with meningitis at just five weeks old. Jacob was quickly diagnosed  and following a fortnight in the hospital he was discharged fighting fit.

Events were set up to raise money for the ward, which were well -atttended by friends and family. The events held were a ‘70’s Disco’ as both the Town Council and the former Mayor was 40 year old.

Also a ‘Children’s Concert’ featuring talented friends from the local amateur stage, and also an evening with northern soul group ‘Mean Business’ for their ‘Big Civic Bash’.

A total of £2,100  was raised for equipment for the Children’s ward

Mr  Boggis said: “It was our pleasure to return today and to see how the money had been spent. We would wish to thank all the staff who  attended to my family so professionally, and in such a friendly helpful way 24/7 at such a trying time. Thank you, you are amazing!”

Ward manager Liz Bishop, said: " The donation will help keep our young patients diverted while they are in hospital and it will also make it easier for parents to stay over. We are very grateful."
