NHS England has published the results of the 2016 NHS Staff Survey. Our response rate was 44.5% up from 40.31% last year. And nationally around 420,000 NHS workers responded.

CHFT results are attached below. We were in the top 20% of trusts where staff felt they were able to contribute to improvements at work. We were better than average for staff motivation at work and also for satisfaction with the quality of work and care they are able to deliver.

In many categories we were in line with other trusts and there is work to do to improve our scores in other areas. Much work started after last year's Staff Survey and you can see what is already underway on the action plan on the intranet. This will continue and is very much ongoing.

Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, Ian Warren, said: " There are some clear postives this year particularly on staff feeling they could make a difference and contribute to improvements.  This is an important step on the journey and we want to build on the real postivity of staff  feeling engaged.  This is very important as we continue to develop the action plan."

Nationally the findings indicate slightly improved overall staff engagement compared with the previous year. The survey also found:

  • 80% of staff said they were able to do their job to a standard they were pleased with, but fewer (59%) reported being able to deliver what they aspired to
  • 31% agreed there were enough staff
  • 71% reported working extra hours
  • 14.9% said they had experienced physical violence from patients, relatives or the public in the last 12 months
