Orthopaedic Outpatients at HRI have a competition running until tomorrow as part of the NHS75 celebrations - but don't expect colleague Sid to welcome you with open arms, as they may just fall off!

Their Charge Nurse, Jacob Ives, said: "We're raising money for the Big Tea by doing a 'guess how many teabags in the jar' competition.

"The prize is a selection of treats from the Thorncliffe Farm Shop at Emley, which has kindly been donated by the Virtual Fracture Clinic. Come and meet Sid the Skeleton (kindly on loan from Indya in the Plaster Room) and peruse our mini library of historic books some of which pre-date the NHS itself! It's £1 per guess.

"This collection of books, pictured,  belonged to a local GP called Dr Bill Bradshaw. He trained at Leeds Medical School in the 1940s with my grandfather Dr William Turner. They both ran the only Casualty department in Leeds during and after the Second World War and into the early days of the NHS in the 1950s. Unfortunately Dr Bradshaw died in 2021. I've always had an interest in medical and nursing history so I have become custodian of these books and some wonderful archaic equipment which would be most unsafe to display in the outpatients department!"
