Macmillan Neuroendocrine Tumour Specialist Nurse, Anthony Thomas, has already been shortlisted in three award finals this year. So it was fourth time lucky for Anthony, as last week he won a Neuroendocrine Cancer UK Hero Award in the Cancer Nurse category.

This year has been a fantastic year for Anthony, as he was also shortlisted for two Nursing Times Awards and one Macmillan Professionals Award.

Anthony said: "I'm lost for words! I didn't even know I'd been nominated for this Award until I was announced as a finalist. Seeing the support for this and how far it's gone has really humbled me to be honest. People have shared this not only all over the UK but out in Europe too and it's been quite emotional to see all the people that have come together to support this.

"I think one massive positive of all this has been seeing the increased awareness people now have of neuroendocrine tumours and that they are no longer considered a rare disease. I hope this continues to give neuroendocrine patients a voice. I don't feel I deserve this anymore than the other finalists, I've met one of the others and her dedication and achievements are amazing. I'll be sure to nominate her again next year."
