Service Lead for Interventional Radiology Isotopes and Radiology Nursing, Amreet Uppal, wanted to share her thanks to the Isotope Imaging Team after their teamwork kicked in following a shortage of an essential agent needed to support patient care.

Amreet said: “Our small, dedicated team is based at HRI within Radiology, supporting around 160 patients per month, with all requests referred internally.

“At the beginning of this month the team had to work quickly to cope with an unprecedented shortage in Europe of Radio Isotope - which is essential for specialised complex scans.

“These scans help referrers with the diagnosis and treatment of some cancers, cardiac and lung patients, though this is a small number of examples of the work carried out by the team.

“National and regional contingency plans kicked in and the team had to collaborate with numerous NHS organisations to work quickly so we could continue to support our patients.

“I’m super proud of them all for the way they handled what for many was the unknown.”
