After the success of the recent multi-agency chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) live exercise, it was the turn of our A&E Consultants to participate, learn and roleplay as patients.
The training saw the team being taken through various areas of A&E, such as the decontamination showers, and being shown how to handle cases of mass contamination. A practical exercise saw three of our consultants act as contaminated patients. The remaining consultants then practiced how they would respond and how they would perform the required decontamination procedures.
Consultant and Clinical Director, Huw Masson, said: "This training is going to be incredibly useful for helping CHFT handle chemical incidents. The aim of today was to give our consultants practical training decontaminating patients who present to the hospital. This is so we can treat patients quickly and efficiently with as little disruption as possible."
Dr Mohammad Saqib, pictured below in the mask, volunteered to be a patient for the exercise, saying: "The training has been wonderful, informative and enlightening. If I was to give it a rating out of 10, it would be an 11!"
