Edited Tuesday 12 November. Airedale now plan to go live early next year, but we will still make changes below overnight. Watch out for an all staff email with the information and see the changes below.

Colleagues at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust are due to start the process to move patient records to Cerner EPR at one minute past midnight, this Wednesday, 13 November. Once the work is complete, they plan to go live with EPR at 04:00 on Saturday 23rd November. Airedale will join us and Bradford on our shared Cerner electronic patient record system. Bradford will also go live with Theatres and Critical Care on the same day.

From this Wednesday there will be two major changes to be aware of, plus some small visual differences across many areas:

1. The Sepsis workflow will change

Please see the current and new workflow images in the images below.

2. Changes to the Paediatric Early Warning Score (PAWS)

Currently colleagues must document all PAWS parameters to calculate a total PAWS score.

From Wednesday, a PAWS score will calculate without all PAWS parameters being documented. When the score is viewed across the patient record it may not be obvious that this is an incomplete PAWS score. Please ensure it is checked in context with the vital signs recorded.

What is happening when and where can I see all the changes that will affect me?

00:01 Wednesday 13 November – the process will begin and changes will be visible

  • Messages to other systems e.g. pathology and radiology will stop between 01:45 and 03:15. Paper requests will be required, as they are during our regular upgrades and updates.
  • After 03:15 the Sepsis and PAWs changes will be in place and there will be minor visual changes to some of EPR. You can see them all on the EPR SOPs website - see the announcement at the top of the category list. Or view it here.
  • A Red Border mail will be shared in advance.

Between 18:00 Thursday, 21st November and 03:30 Friday, 22nd November

  • Airedale will load their remaining patient records.
  • Impacts for CHFT: The system may be slower than normal, KP+ models which need EPR data won’t refresh during this time and won’t update until a few hours after.
  • SUPPORT – IT on Call for any issues through Switchboard.

Saturday 23rd November

  • 04:00 – Airedale go live on Cerner EPR
  • 08:00 - Bradford go live with Theatres and Critical Care
  • SUPPORT: IT on Call for any issues through Switchboard.

Look out for further communications this week.
