Orthopaedic Outpatients Clinical Support Worker, Neha Takhar, has created a lovely display in the orthopaedic clinic waiting room to celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.

Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas are two significant festivals that hold deep cultural and religious importance to the Sikh and Hindu communities around the world.

For Sikh people, Diwali coincides with another celebration called Bandi Chhor Divas. This is when Sikhs remember the release from prison and return to Amritsar of the sixth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Hargobind, and 52 Hindu kings in 1619.

Bandi Chhor Divas means "liberation of prisoners day" and is a Sikh celebration of freedom and human rights. Diwali is the Hindu five day festival of lights, and is the festival of new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil and light over dark.

The display has been very well received by colleagues, patients and visitors and has attracted lots of positive feedback. People have commented that they appreciate feeling that their important festivals are celebrated.
