Following our recent article about new staff governor Sarah Rothery, next up is Healthcare Assistant Julie Pryce, who was recently elected by her colleagues in the Ancillary Staff group. We've been finding out a bit more about her, and what she's looking forward to in her new role.

Tell us a little more about you and your main job role

Hello, my name is Julie, and I am 54 years old. I am a Healthcare Assistant at CHFT, and I have been in this role since 2004.

I am married and a proud Grandma of six. My hobbies are reading, watching movies and socialising with my friends - who I regard as my sisters in arms. I love Italian food, but my cultural background is Jamaican.

Why did you stand for election as a staff governor?

I chose to stand for election as I felt this would be a good opportunity to learn and grow in this role and, hopefully, share any knowledge I have as a current Union representative and to highlight diversity and inclusion.

What are you looking forward to most about the role?

I am looking forward to having the chance to experience leadership at board level, and to develop and improve my interpersonal skills.

How do you hope to make a difference to your staff group?

I hope to make a difference to the way my staff group are perceived and to also show that anything is possible with the right mindset.

Is there anything you've learned about the governor role so far that has surprised you or you weren't expecting?

The only thing that has surprised me in my governor role is actually how much my other role, which is kept separate, actually entwines with it.
