In a regional first, our Stroke Team at CRH has started using a new drug for clot-busting in stroke patients.

Consultant Stroke Physician, Manohar Kini, pictured right said: “The new drug, Tenecteplase, has significant advantages over previous treatments and CHFT is the first Trust in the region to start using it.

“The new treatment costs less, but more importantly it is administered intravenously in just a minute, when it used to take an hour. This can only improve the experience for our patients, and means they are receiving potentially life-saving treatment more quickly.”

The team are pictured with Mr Singh, the first patient to receive the new thrombolytic treatment at CHFT.

The team left-to-right with a seated Mr Singh are Stroke Specialist Nurse Abdul Leghari, 8B’s Ward Manager Christina Emsley, Stroke Specialist Nurse Ruby Gultiano and Dr Manohar Kini, who is a Consultant Stroke Physician and Innovation Lead in Stroke at CHFT.
