Last week our Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) guardians, Carol Gregson and Caroline Lane were out and about again raising the importance of listening with colleagues for Speak Up Month.
Joining them on Be Seen in Green Wednesday were our Director of Corporate Affairs, Vicky Pickles, and Non-Executive Director, Jo-Anne Wass, who chairs our Workforce Committee. Both have responsibility at Trust level for FTSU.
Vicky said: “It’s important to make sure there are routes for people to speak up confidently about things that matter to them. All of us come to work to do a good job with best intentions.
“If something isn’t right, we should be able to speak up, without any fear of detriment, so that issues can be addressed and improved.”
Jo-Anne added: “I’m here to champion Freedom to Speak Up at board level, ensuring that we are always the kind of organisation that welcomes, encourages and supports colleagues to speak out about any concerns they have.
“To me Freedom to Speak Up is central to our One Culture of Care. We have to help people who have got genuine concerns to feel confident to speak up, to reassure them that their voices will be heard, and something will be done as a result. Nine times out of 10, the normal route for raising issues will work, but FTSU is there when — for whatever reason — it doesn't. I wouldn't want anyone to be worried or concerned about raising issues. Their views will be welcomed and respected, and they will be supported by our brilliant ambassadors and guardians."
