Hypoglycaemia, or a 'hypo', is usually where a person's blood sugar (glucose) is below 4mmol/L. It needs to be treated quickly to stop it getting worse. And while many inpatients will be able to self-medicate in our hospitals, it's important for healthcare professionals to know how to spot the symptoms and treat it quickly.

Hypoglycaemia Awareness week is the annual drive to raise awareness of hypoglycaemia in the UK by educating healthcare professionals, and it takes from today until Sunday, 13th October.

Many of our Diabetes Team will be sharing the importance of helping to support patients with the condition as they walk our wards, with stands in main entrances and a fun quiz.

Take a look at the team's fact sheet below to help support our patients and feel free to ask them more questions if you see them on their travels. You can also test how much you really know about hypos with Diabetes UK's Hypo Awareness Week quiz.
